We had, earlier this year, brought to you a guest post by Dinesh Parmar, one of the candidates who wrote the Patent Agent Exam , wherein he had argued that answers to two of the Paper-I Set C questions as provided in the answer key published by the Patent Office were incorrect.
While answer to one of the two questions i. The number of candidates for QE has also grown over the years. There are 5 modules in this track to help candidates prepare for QE. Patent agent trainees or prospective QE candidates also have the option to enrol only for the module relevant to the QE paper they intend to attempt. With effect from enrolment for QE , IPOS will introduce a pre-requisite for QE enrolment to provide patent agent trainees with a more systematic pathway to qualification.
The papers and the corresponding modules are set out in the table below. Results from QE and QE have shown that candidates who passed the corresponding modules before attempting the papers, on average, performed better than candidates who did not.
As such, the pre-requisite applies to you in relation to these two papers. Candidates are also advised to attempt QE only after having undergone a minimum of one-year internship in patent agency work. Together with the modules, these will provide candidates with more all-rounded knowledge to attempt QE. There is however no requirement that you need to attempt these papers, or any other combination of papers, in one QE sitting.
The subject matters covered by papers P3, P4 and P6 of the P. Matters such as the dates on which the exams are held, the time allowed for each paper, the number of questions to be answered and the marking of the papers are all matters determined by the P. Upon confirmation that they intend sitting the exams in papers P3, P4 and P6, as appropriate to their particular situation, candidates will also be required to pay the appropriate fee, directly to the P.
The Board considers applications for registration in the light of the results achieved in both the law and practice examination and in papers P3, P4 and P6 as appropriate of the P. If, in the Board's view, a candidate's results in any of these examinations are not considered adequate, the candidate will be informed and it will be necessary to re-sit the examination in that subject.
